The Void Focus is a crafting station where you can craft the new 8.3 recipes. (It works exactly the same as the Abyssal Focus worked in patch 8.2.). At first, you can only craft the ilvl440 gear with it. You will need to upgrade the Void Focus to its max level in order to craft the highest ilvl gear (ilvl 455/470 gear). It has two upgrades 'Empowered Void Focus' and 'Dreadful Void Focus'.
Upgrading the Void Focus is permanent. You don't have to upgrade it for each item, you can craft as many as you want once upgraded.

How to unlock the Void Focus
1. You have to loot a Recipe: Void Focus from N'Zoth assaults or Lesser Visions. It's a random drop from Faceless, K'thir, Aqir, and Cultists mobs that worship N'Zoth.
2. Use the recipe, then farm the same mobs for 10 Void Focus Splinter. (These same mobs drop the rank 1 for the new raid recipes, so you should keep farming them until you get the recipes.)

4. Go to the Chamber of Heart and turn in the quest at Wrathion which unlocks the Void Focus. Now you can craft ilvl 440 gear.
Upgrading the Void Focus
You will automatically get the first upgrade quest once you finish the first Void Focus quest.
The first upgrade is called Empowered Void Focus, it will let you craft ilvl455 gear. You just simply have to complete the quest Maintaining Focus by collecting 20 Shred of Insanity
The second upgrade is called Dreadful Void Focus, it will let you craft ilvl470 gear. You have to complete the Dream Catcher quest to get this upgrade. You will need to collect 200 Shred of Insanity to complete the quest.
How to get Shred of Insanity
You can get Shred of Insanity from bosses in Ny'alotha, the new World Bosses, by winning Battlegrounds and Arenas, or from Honorable Kills.
- World boss and Normal raid boss - 1 Shred of Insanity
- Heroic raid boss - 10 Shred of Insanity
- Mythic raid boss - 20 Shred of Insanity
- Arenas and Battlegrounds have a chance to reward Shred of Insanity after a win.
- World PvP - Low chance from an Honorable Kill.
Where is the Void Focus
The Void Focus is located behind Wrathion in the Chamber of Heart. (once you complete the quest)
I included this part just in case you completed the Void Focus quest without realizing what it was.
Are you looking to play a Void Elf in Battle for Azeroth, or indeed any of the Allied Races — Highmountain Tauren, Lightforged Draenei or Nightborne? Then you’ll need to do more than simply purchase Battle for Azeroth, although yes you’ll need to do that too. The folks at Wowhead have created a tool that can help you work out if you’ve completed the achievements and reputations that you’ll be required to have finished in order to unlock these new racial options.
Void Elves
Note that these races all involve a special achievement that isn’t currently in the game files yet, but will be in 7.3.5’s game files, and the achievements are unique per each race — for example, to unlock a Void Elf you’ll need to do a special quest chain that grants an achievement. There’s one for Highmountain Tauren, Void Elves, Nightborne and Lightforged Draenei in the 7.3.5 game files. Currently, there’s not one for Zandalari Trolls or Dark Iron Dwarves. Those will likely only come to pass when Battle for Azeroth goes live.
Quest and exalt yourself
Void Elf Unlock
But in addition to that achievement, there are others you’ll need. For example, to unlock Nightborne, you’ll need to complete the Good Suramaritan achievement completing the Suramar storyline and also unlock Exalted reputation with the Nightfallen. Then you’ll take part in the aforementioned quest chain, which at the end will unlock Nightborne on your account. You probably will need to do the quest chain on a character of the proper faction. However, you can have the reputation and Good Suramaritan achievement on a character of either faction for this purpose. They’re account wide.
With slight variations, the same is true for the Highmountain Tauren. You’ll need Exalted with the Highmountain Tribe and Ain’t No Mountain High Enough, completed by doing the zone storyline. For the Void Elves and the Lightforged Draenei, you’ll need to complete You Are Now Prepared! and finish the Argus storyline. Void Elves require you to earn Exalted with the Argussian Reach, while Lightforged Draenei require it from the Army of the Light. In each quest there will be a storyline quest that depicts the Allied Race in question joining the Alliance or the Horde.
So head on over to Wowhead and track those achievements — that way you’ll know which ones you need to work on in order that you can create that new Void Elf or Highmountain Tauren Warrior you’ve been waiting for.
